Vicious Wins UWL Mesquite

Vicious Wins UWL Mesquite

The final day of play has wrapped on the second Ultimate Woodsball League event of the year, and team Vicious has taken down the title in the Open Division, having beaten the Henchmen (comprised mostly of former members of San Diego Dynasty), in the finals.  In the Tactical division, GAT Factory emerged victorious over Demon Knight II after a very close game.

Small dust clouds continued to roll in and out of the venue throughout the day, but that didn't damper the spirits or the enthusiasm of the teams, all of whom have become very supportive of the UWL format and league president, Tom Cole.

Teams from the Tactical division were excited to rest on the sidelines in-between their games and watch the Open (Pro) division matches, which for many of the teams was the first time they've been able to see some of the top pro players in the world up close and personal.  Bob Long, captain of the Oakland Assassins UWL team and considered possibly the most famous paintballer alive, found himself surrounded by paintball fans all weekend long, hoping to hear the legend share some great stories or talk about what he's working on next. Players were equally amazed to be in the presence of so many members of team Dynasty, who also spent time chatting up the local teams.

Overall, this weekend was a perfect example of what the Ultimate Woodsball League is trying to accomplish.  The original goal of the UWL was to get experienced tournament players back into the woods and return to their roots, while exposing woodsball/recreational players to a new competitive format that didn't involve inflatable bunkers or overly-aggressive speedball teams.  Tom Cole and company have managed to pull off these perfect events over and over again for going on three years now, and PaintBall.com is looking forward to traveling to at least an additional three more UWL tournaments before the year is out.
