PSP World Cup - Pro Prelim Updates

PSP World Cup - Pro Prelim Updates

The PSP World Cup is in full swing here in Orlando, Florida.  The event is once again taking place at the Fantasy of Flight facility in Polk City.  Over 200 teams have made the trek down to compete in the single largest paintball tournament of the year.  The divisional games got underway yesterday, but the real crowds turned out this morning to see the pro squads, filled with some of the best players in the world, take the field.

All pro matches are being played on a single centerfold arena, complete with full grandstands for fans.  Currently, Edmonton Impact sits on top of the pro rankings, followed closely by Tampa Bay Damage, who just won the NPPL Las Vegas championship and series title less than a month ago.  Trailing them in 3rd and 4th respectively are the Boston Red Legion and LA Infamous, both of whom are far enough behind in points that they would need both Impact and Damage to have a terrible showing here in Florida in order for either team to have a chance at taking the yearly title.

Here are the pro rankings as they sat coming into Cup:

1st - Impact
2nd - Damage
3rd - Red Legion
4th - Infamous
5th - Aftermath
6th - Aftershock
7th - Dynasty
8th - Ironmen
9th - Entourage
10th - X-Factor
11th - Vicious
12th - XSV

Things are currently going good so far for Impact, who won both of their preliminary matches today.  Red Legion and Infamous also posted back to back victories in the prelims, with Damage, Aftershock, Vicious and Dynasty managing one win apiece.  Things aren't sailing so smoothly for other squads however, as X-Factor, Entourage, and mostly surprisingly, the Ironmen, have been shutout in their opening rounds.  There's still more games to be played today, so check this page later on for a full recap of the Friday Pro Preliminaries.
