With the regionals in the books teams are gearing up for the 2007 Spyder Cup Grand Finale next month. Over 200 teams from across the country competed in the regional qualifying tournaments held in Los Angeles, Calif., Charlotte N.C., and Chicago, Ill. Now all that’s left is the Grand Finale on Nov. 3 and 4 at the Hollywood Sports Park in Bellflower, Calif. The Spyder Cup is an amateur only 3 on 3 event, free for anyone to enter. The only fee is $150 per team, which gets them three cases of Spyder RED Label Paintballs. Unprecedented and surely a huge draw for competitors is the prize package: Hummer H2’s for each member of the winning team and one for the dealer the team listed when they signed up for the event. If the players don’t want the cars they can opt for a $40,000 cash option instead. Regional winners from the competitions in Charlotte and Chicago are being flown out to Los Angeles and put up in local hotels for the competition – all part of their prize packages. The top 64 teams from each region are guaranteed a spot in the Grand Finale as well. Dan Weber, Marketing Director of Kingman Group, expects this to draw the largest field of competition out of all the Spyder Cup events and a crowd of some 400 or so spectators. Kingman Group makes all Spyder products and is the sole sponsor of the Spyder Cup series. Remaining spots in the Grand Finale are available on a first come first serve basis. All registration is handled by the American Paintball Players Association, all players will need to register on the APPA website where they will receive player numbers. They then can use their player numbers to sign up for the Spyder Cup. Registration will remain open until 12 p.m. Nov. 2 or until all spots are filled.
