A peak at the new SP soft gear
Preview of new Smart Parts soft gear

Smart Parts has finally revamped their soft gear to be up to par with what the rest of the industry has to offer. I’ll admit I haven’t been too keen on Smart Parts jerseys, pants, or packs for quite some time. On the jerseys, there hasn’t been venting enough to brag about. The basic jersey (not the graphics) looked the same year after year (kinda like another company that let their jersey fade away… good thing XSV and Dynasty still keeps their pants popular).
The pants just looked like over sized Tae Kwan Do bottoms with your usual battle swab pocket. The outdated Straight Shot Squeegee pocket was still there too. The lanyard has pretty much killed the need for a pocket for that squeegee. The custom sublimated panel down the thigh gave the pants something to draw the eye, but with nothing at all that special. Not to mention the lack of venting to circulate air in the crotch area.
The packs, they were very outdated compared to the harnesses out on the market now. Not much in lumbar support and the graphics available for them are about in style as splash anodizing (though I do miss splash ano…).
At the PSP Texas Open it was very apparent that Miami Raiders and Philadelphia Americans were donning some new threads and I was really liking it, of course it was from Smart Parts.

The new jersey is stylish with piping and lots of venting in all the key areas. The colors are brighter on the new jerseys, not having that dull look to them. The jersey has a shine to it. The upper shoulders and elbow to forearm has some padding. The body of the jersey (not the sublimation design, though that looked great too) finally has some functional ventilation and most of all some style. If Smart Parts continues their custom jersey with this jersey template, man, Animal Paintball and CSG had better ante up next season. A nice sublimation design is not gonna counter a nice custom sublimated jersey on one of the stylish jersey templates available.

The new pants, these look awesome too. Some functional padding (when I say “padding” on the jersey and pants, you know I’m talking about the “bouncy bouncy”) is stitched in from the knee to the lower shin. The inner thigh looks as though there is that much appreciated ventilation strip. The new design looks very appealing and I’m fairly certain that Smart Parts will be on the fields come middle of the year to be worn by many players.
The new harness, I didn’t get that great of a look at one. But with the common elastic strap to launch a pod down into your palm is ever present. The straps have a textured rubber “handle” and the belt is nice and wide.
This is all a sneak preview for what is to come. Stay tuned for an in depth gear review when Smart Parts releases their new lineup. The Americans and Raiders were all wearing proto types.
